It's a good idea to consider several factors while reserving to help make your trip more enjoyable. Since you may be in your car rental for a large part of your trip, the car you drive as well as your overall rental experience is obviously very important. See our tips list below.

Breakdowns
Most rental companies are associated with an emergency recovery service provider whether this is the RAC/AA or the hire company's own recovery service. The majority of these recovery facilities can be availed of free of charge. (Dan Dooley, Eurodrive Capital Car Rental)

Car Fuel Options
On the most part, car hire companies provide their customers with a full tank of fuel. Generally, they will require you to return the hired car with a full tank of petrol. If you do not return the car full, you will be charged for the cost of the refill.

Most major rental car companies offer child safety and infant seats for rent. Please be sure you reserve these ahead of time. They are usually anywhere from £2-£10 per day

Get an extra Key
Many car companies will provide you with an EXTRA KEY if you ask for one. This can come in handy for some of us who are absent minded.

Renting in another country
When renting a car in another country, your personal insurance coverage probably will not extend to a car rental. In this case, your best option is to buy the collision damage waiver from the rental agency which may be expensive but very useful.

Additional Drivers
All car hire companies allow additional drivers to use the hired car. Some companies charge for this facility, generally around IR£10 per additional driver.

Age Limits
Most of the car hire companies have a lower age limit of 23 and an upper age limit of 70. However, some companies do extend their age range to those over 21yrs and those under 75yrs, though the do charge an extra amount for this.

Driving experience
All Irish car hire companies require that hirers have a full clean (unendorsed) licence from their country of origin. Generally it will be required that they have a minimum of two years driving experience.

Insurance
Most of the car hire companies provide basic third party insurance cover. They also provide additional cover for those who wish to avail of it. · Theft Insurance- this covers hirers in the event of the hired car being stolen. This can be availed of for as little as IR£3.50 per day. · Personal accident insurance can be availed of for around IR£3.50 per day

Unlimited mileage
The majority of car hire companies do not specify a maximum amount of mileage that you can use. Hirers can use an unlimited amount of mileage.
