Ireland welcomes almost 3 million air passengers from all over the world each year. Many arrive on Aer Lingus, the national airline of Ireland. On this page we have detailed some useful information, hints and tips as well as links to enable you to book on line and check out the latest fare deals.

General Airport Information

Most visitors to Ireland arrive in either Shannon, Dublin, or Cork Airport. The airports are owned and operated by Air Rianta, a state owned company. In addition to Aer Lingus, Delta and Continental fly directly from the United States. (Aer Lingus flights are cosponsered by American Airlines and therefore, have the exact same schedule. The advantage is the ability to use and earn AA mileage points.)

Travelling from The USA to Ireland

Direct flights from the United States leave from New York, Newark, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles. US visitors can leave from these gateway cities for either Shannon or Dublin. Americans can also fly to London's Heathrow or Gatwick Airports for frequent connections to Ireland. For Americans trying to fly direct to Dublin, as of this writing, there are only 5 nonstop flights available; one each from New York JFK, Boston, Chicago (all Air Lingus), Newark (Continental) and Atlanta (Delta). Additional flights are available through Shannon (see above). There are also many choices and reasonable fares, flying through London, usually Heathrow Airport. However, Heathrow is often not an easy airport to get through when changing flights. A carrier who tries to schedule you with only an hour to switch planes will be "cutting it thin". There is also a connection available through Manchester, England, which is a smaller, pleasanter airport.

Travelling from Europe to Ireland

Aer Lingus, British Airways, Cityjet and  Ryanair fly from many European cities into Dublin and nost other European national carriers fly from their capitals and major cities.
For British and other Euro travelers, there are numerous daily flights from London's airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, London City Airport and Luton. Most other major European cities have 2, 3 or more flights a day.
The best place to check general flight information is at the schedule pages for either the Shannon, Dublin or Cork airports. Cork only has flights from England and a few other European cities. For specific flight information, and to book your flights, we suggest using the online travel services Expedia.com or Travelocity.com. Use the Links Below to find out more.
